This is an interesting news. An opera by Mozart called Idomeneo will be shown in Berlin. The opera was canceled before because it depicts Mohammed being beheaded. Although Muslims shouldn't get that upset, because Mohammed will be beheaded alongside Jesus, Buddha and Neptune. Even if some Muslims think it's heresy, please note that neither the libretto by Varesco nor the score by Mozart contains this scene. The beheading of Mohammed is an additional scene that is used under the direction of Neuenfels.

Im glad it wasn't shown as beheading Muhammad is blasphemous.

yes but now it will be shown
muslims and others should look at the beheading in a philosophical way and not start babbling about prejudice, blasphemies, jihads etc

What a great logic! Just because some other religions don't care if their Prophet or God is being mocked, that doesn't mean Muslims should applaud to this kind of bullsh!t altered opera. It's very well known why this kind of thing is made.
This is only interesting to atheists and to the jews.
Let me quote few comments on this:
Such a performance which mocks Christianity in such an offensive way should be canceled. Did the original opera contain such blasphemy?
As a Christian I would be very offended and can understand why people of other faiths would be offended as well. Chancellor Merkel must be completely out of touch with Germany's Christian Heritage.
- Mike Reid, St. Louis, Missouri USA
It might offend christians and buddhists, as well as pagans, too. The scene was added to a Mozart opera for the purpose of sensationalism. This is not an interpretation of Mozart's work, so much as a rewrite.
Sometimes common sense should prevail.
- Bob Reynolds, USA
This version has nothing to do with Mozart and his name should not be sullied by such interpretations.
His masterpieces, like Idomeneo, should not be subjected to this kind of stupid alteration.
- D James, Lancashire, UK
and a very good question I've been meaning to ask myself:
Will Moses' head also be displayed or is the Jewish leader off limits?
- Abdul Naasir, Santa Barbara
:WTF:
Btw Muslims will also be insulted for mocking Jesus-Isa(aleihi salaam) cause he's the Messenger of God.
But of course, it's all freedom of speech.

Then of with the head of the godless bastard who made this rewrite to the opera. This isn't free speech, offending figures representing actual religions (i.e. valid religions (ones that have existed for a long time, are not scams to make money and spread a message of peace), since in the west any one can make up a religion and it's usually scam artists who do it) is nothing more then an act of stupidity and ignorance. Especially considered the controbersy that has existed recently over the cartoons and the popes comments. This guy is probably like that dutch guy, theo van gogh, he's probably just trying to piss people he doesn't like off and as an argument to continue spreading hate he's gonna claim it's free speech.

I did not support the cartoons because it was a very ugly stereotyping of millions of people, and neither do I support these political stunts, which is why I pointed out that it's not in the great Mozart's original opera.
HOWEVER, criticizing a religion does not spread hate and you don't know in what context Mohammed is beheaded, so let's not jump to conclusions. But why should people fear of retaliation for criticizing Islam? European Muslims have to understand and accept that criticizing something is 100% OK, and wether it be their religion or anything else. Of course I don't like hypocrites, so yes Moses should also be beheaded on stage, but I guarantee you that Jews wouldn't respond to that like barbarians.
As for Theo van Gogh, what kind of Wahabists websites have you been reading? Is it spreading hate for a non-Muslim to criticize Islam? His work had been supported by a leading Dutch Muslim MP and plenty of other Muslims because there is more than enough to criticize about Islam. And what was the reaction? Some Islamic radicals kill him. It's sad but true, that most stereotypes of Muslim are ironically confirmed by the responses to it. The cartoons portrayed many as terrorists and violent. How did they react? By burning embassies, rioting and killing.
Learn how this works:
Jewish faith:
-non-Jewish criticizer of Israel is an "anti-Semite".
-Jewish criticizer of Israel is a "self-hating Jew".
Islamic faith:
-non-Islamic criticizer of Islam is an "infidel".
-Islamic criticizer of Islam is well someone who is...
I don't know, I don't think there is a name for that one, because many Muslims equate criticizing with insulting.

Bunjevac you got it right.
To the west only good Muslims are those who drink and gamble and behave like westerners, those Muslims who are far away from religion are good ones.O.o
HJ stop talking crap, to you wahabi is every religious Muslim. or just everyone with Muslim name?
I doubt you know what wahabi means.
That Theo Van Gogh was big time racist,he had so many anti-Islamic and anti-foreigners speeches. So he wanted them out of Holland, and one Muslim guy didn't like what he said and killed him. That was not freedom of speech that was spreading of hate.
Also Orthodox Serb killed Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs (even though it's probably big scam) and nobody blames "fanatic orthodoxes" or chetniks, also Anna Politkovskaja (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Politkovskaya) was murdered cause she was going to publish report about Chechnya genocide, she didn't get her freedom of speech.
You see when you are invloved in politics you create always enemies. There is always gonna be someone who doesn't like what you said, and someone might kill you.
This stupid rewriting of the opera is so obvious attempt to once more provoke Muslims, cause it's known that other religious groups will hardly protest.
They know very well how Muslims reacted before and they want to show it again "how barbaric" we are, they want to create more incidents.
And all that talk about trying to build bridge between Christians and Muslims, to have more understanding about each others faith is all pure crap.
People don't realize that in Islam, the word religion means way of life, a way of living that includes all aspects of life, be they spiritual, moral, social, economic, or even political.
And we shouldn't apologise for actually loving and caring for our religion and our holy figures.
No matter if Muslims think that Christians and jews are going astray, there is no single Muslim who made or will make provocation in this way, to ridicule their religious figures.

yea well, taking into consideration what has happened recently, why couldn't they just play the original opera?
also on a second thought, putting moses on the scene is just giving the jews undeserved importance
and lastly, muslims should take some things more cold-blooded. everyone has a right to do what they want. by just ignoring that part of the opera, muslims will show character and culture. by starting to talk about holy wars etc (as it happens sometimes) they will only show fanaticism
