Hey guys, I have an idea. Why don't we share some lyrics of our respective countries' best folk songs (in the original language and English translation)? I am curious to see what they're all about.
Here I'll start with a very popular Albanian folk song from the northern town of Shkodra:
Luleborë
Snowflower
Tuj kërku n’arë dhe kodër
Tuj prek lulet t’gjith me dorë,
Veç n’një kopësht n’ma t’bukrin n’Shkodër
Ty të gjeta luleborë
While searching the fields and hills
Touching the flowers with my hands,
Only in a garden, the most beautiful in Shkodra
I found you, snowflower
Je e vogël por e plot,
Ty t’kërkoj unë tash sa mot
Tash sa mot unë ty t’kërkoj,
N’gëzim me ty jetën ta shkoj
Eja eja luleborë
Unë me ty do thur kuror
You are small but wholesome,
It’s you I’ve been searching for a long time
For a long time I was looking for you
To spent my life with you in joy
Come, come snowflower
Because with you I will weave a wreath
Pash m’a t’bukurën stinë t’pranverës
Pash ma t’bukrin trandafil
Mos t’ia falësh kujt ti erën
Se për mu vetëm ke çil
I saw the most beautiful spring
I saw the most beautiful rose
Don’t give your flavour to anyone
Because it is me whom you blossomed for
This is a very beautiful, peaceful song which gained popularity also in Moscow during 1950s. Many people do not know this, but if you ask Russians of that generation they'll tell you that they've heard of this song.
