BELGRADE -- Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) achieved an income of over three billion euros in 2005.
Belgrade’s Ekonomist magazine has published the Top 300 list of the Serbian companies, with NIS at number one, followed by Serbia’s electric company EPS, Delta Holding, Telekom and U.S. Steel Serbia.
The top 300 increased their income by 33 percent compared to 2004, a figure indicative of the positive effects of privatization on companies’ performances.
State-owned companies are still major players in Serbian economy, although they slowly lose their dominance in the market, while companies wholly owned by the state ranking in the first one hundred achieve 46.3 percent of the Top 300 list’s total income.
Serbian economy is dominated by three sectors – energy, wholesales and foodstuffs, while NIS alone dwarfs each individual sector’s performance. As many as 140 of the Top 300 Serbian companies list are companies involved in wholesales.
