for Amin who didnt know that the orthodox xians worship mummies and also some food for thinking for Balozi regarding why the orthodox priests in albania were supposed to unburry dead during an alleged effort to dress them up like greeks (no case here in my opinion, just a possible explanation about what could have really happened)

many pictures had been publiced in churchy sites
...vaunting for the marvelous mummies their church features! :D

maybe those who are unfamiliar with the east orthodox practices of mummy worship, necrophilia, digging up and then chopping up corpses to distribute the limbs to as many churches as possible so that the believers flock to worship them, may be shocked but all these practices still do exist in 2007 in EU!

here is the simple procedure :
first of all we pick up the tomb of a churchy/holy guy, we prefer inquisitors, psychos, losers, retards, unworldly dudes, fascist prosecutors of non believers, so called prophets of the future, charlatans magicians and healers etc
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1978/agiosnikolaosmnimeio2xs.jpg

then we dig up the grave

if we find human remains of that kind, we cant do anything big than sending the bones here and there so that the churches become more attractive to the believers who are anxious to go and pray over the bone of their favorite saint!

we better need a well preserved mummy so that we steal more money from the naive believers
therefore we bury somebody in conditions which encourage the natural mummification (which have to do with moisture, oxygenating of tomb etc) and we set a plan to undig the corpse of a popular priest who has recently died sometime in the future

we also use chemicals which help in mummification and specific drugs (even used when the subject was still alive)

so after some years we open the grave and here we have our mummy!

we fill it with perfume and ornaments and we relocate it inside the church, standing

or lying

in close show case (the less scary ones i guess)

as heavy as it can get

or in open show case! O.o

some people seem to prefer live horror movies than going in the cinema or downloading a horror film!
its a bit more xpensive (since u actually have to pay a ticket of some kind to worship the mummy) but it worths the money, thats the real thing! :worthy:

and every once and a while u take out the mummy for a ride to take some fresh air!!! :P
a true christian party and parade! :O

i d better believe in the mummy of tutanhamun :D myself though, as its much older and seems better preserved too than the eastorthodox mummy which has lasted less than 2 decades so far

==============================

if its hard for a civilized being to believe that such disgusting and creepy practices still exist in the world, then read something that took place last year (and became a big deal in greece)

H&H even though i am not a religious orthodox person, this post of yours will put me in the position of becoming a fervant christian apologist.

It is deeply poisoned with irony which goes to the extend of hate.

The biggest mistake you make is that you are mixing the clergy with the religion,a commonest one.

So i will answer you ,but not now,im quite tired,as i had a full day at work.

That is one of the coolest things Xians are doing,i used to visit monasteries only to see a vast collection of rotten hands, fingers , scull parts , entire bodies (not so cool) and hair when i was young.
Of course wiping icons are my all time best, specially blood tears , they give me that "eat your heart now lillith" feeling.
Do anyone know in wich closter you can hold rotted maria magdalena's "hot" hand?

irony yes, they fully deserve it, hate no
....i am a fair person

so its not the faithful believers who rush to worship the relics?
...i m afraid u are doing the commonest mistake of tearing apart the componenents of religion as a whole...a religion needs the priesthood and it needs the believers as well....otherwise it cant exist

...on that issue of the mummies, the priesthood provides the crowd with what it needs ("miraculous" objects to draw the attention and rest upon)...and the horror show goes on!

....in the past, such practises included the boiling of the "holy bones" to make thaumaturge soups which were supposed to heal every illness! O.o
