We are hosting one of the greatest International World Class Events in Europe!!!:trampolin:trampolin:worthy::vi ctory:
To organize the event, Romania ran with a stadium which is still being constructed, and won against countries with a long tradition in the field, such as Great Britain (Emirates), Germany (AufSchalke), Spain (Montjuic) and Ireland (Lansdowne Road).
Bucharest will host the 2012 UEFA Europe League final, under a unanimous decision by UEFA’s executive committee on Thursday in Nyon. The game will be held on the National Arena, which is currently in its early construction stage.
The head of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), Mircea Sandu, a member of UEFA’s executive committee, said this decision is an important moment for the federation and the history of Romanian football.
“Our efforts were finally successful but it is obvious to everybody and first of all to us that we have to carry out this task, which is both difficult and a real honor. We are aware of what this implies and I am confident that, with the help of the Bucharest City Hall and the government, along with the other institutions involved, we will be able to complete the construction on time and live up to the standards required by such an event. This will be an event that will have a significant impact on our image and our financial situation,” Sandu was quoted as saying on FRF’s website.
The race for the organization of a UEFA Cup final in 2011 and 2012 included: England (Emirates), Germany (AufSchalke), Spain (Montjuic), Ireland (Lansdowne Road) and Romania (Lia Manoliu). England staged the UEFA Cup final in 2008, Germany will hold the final in 2012 and Spain will host next year’s Champions League final. Ireland was chosen to stage the Europe League final in 2011 and Romania, in 2012.
In its Thursday session, UEFA’s executive committee also decided that London’s Wembley Stadium will host the Champions League in 2011 and Fussball Arena will hold the final of the competition in 2012.
National Arena (the former Lia Manoliu stadium) is currently being rebuilt and works are scheduled to be completed in October-November 2012. The project consists of an almost complete reconstruction of the stadium as a covered arena with 55,000 seats, arranging special areas for athletes, officials, members of the public. The construction contract is worth about 119.77 million Euro..
